The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Coalition of Peers Dismantling the Drug War Society (CPDDW). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors and work collaboratively with other leadership positions. This is a temporary, full-time position with benefits in the form of a wellness plan.


$27/hr at 0.8fte.



  • Works closely with the Board of Directors and designated committees to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.

  • Supervises, collaborates and provides mentorship with organization staff and membership.

  • Collaboratively designs and implements a strategic plan and annual budget.

  • Serves as CPDDW’s primary spokesperson of the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public, funders and organizations membership.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance CPDDW’s mission.

  • Engages in fundraising and development other revenue streams.

  • Oversees messaging, calls to action and other communications efforts.

  • Supports and celebrates the strengths of people who use substances.

  • Ongoing engagement and communication with organization Board and committees.

  • Leads the CPDDW in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors and membership.

  • Liaise with the Board of Directors to provide all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

  • Implements CPDDW’s projects and initiatives that carry out the organization’s mission.

  • Enhances CPDDW’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with membership and other organizations.

  • Ensures staff and board are supported and their needs are being met

  • Available for reviewing and signing all documentation relating to and on behalf of CPDDW, while being encouraged to seek advisement and oversight from the board where appropriate.

  • Responsible for overseeing the fiscal integrity of CPDDW including prudent reserves and operational funds.

  • Other duties as delegated by the Board of Directors.


  • Lived or living experience as a person who uses substances.

  • Extensive personal understanding of the trials and tribulations of people who use or have used drugs (i.e. structuralized violence, stigmatization, discrimination, criminalization, and harms of prohibitionist policy).
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.

  • Should have grant writing experience.

  • Experience working on and with a non-profit Board of Directors.

  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s future to the staff, board, volunteers and funders.

  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and mandate.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.

  • Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.

  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.

  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.

  • Experience in organizational governance and leadership.

  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong public speaking ability.

  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.

  • Experience with media engagement.

  • Valid photo identification.

  • Reliable means of transportation to meet several daily commitments.

  • A high degree of understanding of intersectionality and cultural familiarity and sensitivity.
